TEI: Text Encoding Initiative

A group whose objective is to define standards for textual representation in digital format (and more precisely, machine-readable text). The term TEI also refers to recommendations from the group. These are text markup conventions in element / attribute form, encoded in XML. The TEI scheme has an evolving architecture which is possible to enrich with elements specific to a particular field. This is why there are working groups and workshops on annotation working for the standardization of TEI “business” elements. Again, it is standardization that will guarantee the interoperability and scientific potential of the encoded information.
