Recording medium

Analog or digital recordings must be stored in real time on a medium. In the case of analog sound, we often think of magnetic tapes and audio cassettes, but vinyl records are also analog sound carriers. In the case of images or videos, this includes of all types of magnetic tapes: VHS, Betamax, U-Matic, HI8 to name the best known. Analog supports exist for certain measuring instruments. When we talk about digital media, we universally refer to storage that can be connected to a computer. The main types today are the hard drive and so-called permanent memory, used in USB keys, SSDs and SD, Memory Stick, XD type cards. Note that there are digital media on tape, including DAT for audio or DV for video or for certain computer backups.
