Long-term preservation

“the act of keeping information in a correct and immediately understandable form over the long term. [OAIS French translation]. This is the set of actions necessary to preserve the integrity, authenticity and readability of the information. The “long term” being defined in this same standard as a “period long enough for it to be necessary to take into account technological changes, and in particular the management of new media and data formats as well as the evolution of the community of users. This period is not limited in time.” See also the distinction between sustainability and secure backup on the CINES site.
